Meet the Pastor

Rev. Dr. Addison Shields, Jr., joined the staff of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange as Senior Pastor on July 1, 2011. He is a native of Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Shields is the former Chicago Southern District Superintendent for the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. He received two degrees from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity and a Master of Christian Education. He also completed his Doctoral studies at United Theological Seminary focusing on Church Revitalization and New Church Growth.

Dr. Shields brings many years of experience within The United Methodist Church to our congregation. His undergraduate education was in business administration and accounting. He brings to our congregation a clear understanding of what is means to be a church with “Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors,” the motto of the United Methodist Church. Dr. Shields is a vocalist and musician. He loves the Lord and God’s people. His sermons are challenging and thoughtful, seasoned with a little humor.
